Marijke Jaburg

Marijke Jaburg (Middelburg) began her artistic career in dance. She received her training at the Opera Ballet at the Stadsschouwburg Amsterdam. Subsequently, she gained acting and dance experience with the Dutch National Opera, the Nederlandse Comedie, and the Dutch National Ballet. She then spent three years working at various city theaters in Germany.

Back in the Netherlands, she performed for many years with the Amstel Toneel, a company for both adults and children. Following this, she spent four years with Theatergroep Funhouse, where mime, drama, dance, and puppetry were combined.

During this period, she began taking classes at Atelier Isa van der Zee, where she focused on drawing and pastel. The immediacy of chalk on paper remains her great love to this day. Later, she took lessons at Atelier Buri in Amsterdam, where she worked with oil on paper and collages.

From 1986, she returned to the Dutch National Opera as a movement actress and featured extra. Additionally, she worked as an assistant director and stage manager.

In 2008, she held a solo exhibition, Dance Street, centered on the theme of movement. The finissage was highlighted by the performance Feike, in collaboration with puppeteer Feike Boschma. His work served as a significant source of inspiration.

In 2009, she moved to Hulst in Zeeuws-Vlaanderen. From Hulst, she attended drawing classes—primarily life drawing—at d’Akademie Beeld in Sint-Niklaas for many years. Later, she expanded her practice to include painting and the combination of paint and drawing materials.

Marijke Jaburg
