On the edge art exhibition

Art at the tipping point of humanity and the world

Are you an artist working in painting, photography, or mixed media? Let your work be part of the group and sales exhibition ON THE EDGE, which will take place in June 2026. From February 1, 2026, you can register via this page free of charge and without obligation.

Balancing

We live “on the edge” — on the brink of change, tension, hope, and uncertainty. The world balances between war and peace, progress and decay, connection and alienation.

ON THE EDGE brings together artists responding to this time of transition. Their work explores what it means to be human on the border of the known and the unknown — between chaos and control, fear and desire, past and future.

Sub-themes

1. The Edge of the World
Climate, ecological vulnerability, the boundary between nature and industry.
What happens when the earth talks back?

2. The Edge of Humanity
Identity, gender, spirituality, mental resilience, and isolation.
How do we find balance in a fragmented society?

3. The Edge of Reality
AI, digital illusion, and the blurring between real and fake.
Is technology our salvation or our downfall?

4. The Edge of Silence
Stillness, introspection, hope, and healing.
What happens when we dare to stand still instead of rushing forward?

Art Forms

Painting, photography, installation, video, textiles, and mixed media. ON THE EDGE touches upon the most important questions of our time: climate, identity, technology, mental health, spirituality. Artists addressing these themes are provided with a platform that matches the depth and urgency of their work.

This is not a decorative exhibition — this is a substantive statement.

The Engelse Kerk; a monumental, museum-like location

The Engelse Kerk Middelburg is a powerful, atmospheric, and professional exhibition space that elevates work. The Gothic architecture, serene lighting, and historical weight instinctively give every artwork more expressive power. With the newly installed gallery lighting, this space offers many artists a unique opportunity to exhibit in a sacred, almost museum-like context.

The Engelse Kerk attracts a diverse audience:

  • art lovers
  • cultural tourists
  • students
  • writers & thinkers
  • visitors to lectures, concerts, and workshops

As such, the exhibition program offers the opportunity to reach a new audience that transcends the regular gallery visitor. Visitor experiences in the Engelse Kerk are often intense and emotionally charged. The space creates an atmosphere where art lingers, invites reflection, opens conversations, and above all, touches people. For an artist, that is the highest achievement a work can reach.

Intensive promotion and professional presentation

All participating artists receive:

  • mention on website & socials
  • professional photography of the exhibition
  • online catalog listing, before and after the exhibition
  • press & media attention as part of the overall presentation
  • large image touch-screen presentation with links to their own website

This strengthens both visibility and CV.

Art Program

ON THE EDGE is part of the broader art program of the Engelse Kerk and aligns with exhibitions such as Urban Femininity, Nature Connectedness, and Muze of Meester?
Selection for this exhibition increases your chances for:

  • future projects
  • commissions
